Robbery/ Burglary 1-20-09 Fannie May

Robbery SuspectOn 1-20-09 at 9:19am Michigan City Police were dispatched to Fannie May (102 W. US 20) reference a robbery that had occurred. A Fannie May employee upon arrival at work and entering the business encountered a person inside. This person (suspect) is described as possibly being a black male, 5’5” to 5’6”, slender build wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Suspect ordered the victim to open the safe located in the establishment. After complying with the suspect’s demands, the victim was then ordered to go into the bathroom and suspect secured the bathroom door keeping the victim from escaping. The victim was able to get out and call 911. Michigan City Police detectives were called to the scene and it was discovered that the suspect gained entry to the business by creating a hole in the roof. The Michigan City Fire Department assisted in gaining access to the roof of the business to obtain any possible evidence. This is the second robbery/ burglary of this nature that has occurred within the past several weeks. Robbery SuspectA similar incident occurred on 1-2-09 at the McDonalds Restaurant located at 5816 S. Franklin St. There have been similar incidents of burglaries of business across the city and neighboring communities in which access to the establishments were gained by creating a hole in the roof. Video of the suspect has been obtained and is attached. The Michigan City Police Department is asking for anyone with information or identification of the suspect involved in these crimes to call Det. Ken Drake at 874-3221 ext. 339 or Lt. Sue Harrison 874-3221 ext. 310. We are also asking for all businesses to be alert especially when opening each day for any suspicious individuals or any evidence of a possible break-in and if anything raises suspicion to immediately call 911. This suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
