The Michigan City Police Civil Service Commission has the responsibility of hiring Police Officers. The application process is as follows:

• Civil Service Examination, including interviews and a written examination
• Polygraph Examination
• Background Investigation
• Agility Test – Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Standards
• Offer to Hire
• Physical Examination
• Psychological Examination
• Drug Screen
• Hiring Date Established upon Successful Completion of Listed Steps

• Must be a US citizen.
• Must be at least 21 years of age but not yet 36 years of age when appointed.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or possess a state accredited G.E.D.
• Must not have been convicted of any class of felony.
• Must hold a valid operators license.
• Must be able to pass a written and a physical agility test.

Longevity increases for every 3 years of service. Receive a 3% base pay increase up to 20 years.
