Emergency Management was formerly known as Civil Defense. Federal, state and local organizations adopted the name Emergency management to more clearly state the objectives of the organization. Most residents are familiar with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that assists in major disasters throughout the country.
The Michigan City Emergency Management Agency prepares and keeps current the City emergency Operations Plan and assists in coordinating the efforts of City Response and Support organizations. The Emergency Operations Plan covers natural and man-made hazards, including foreign terrorism.
Our overriding goal is to prevent loss of life and property damage during time of disaster.
